To perhaps try and imagine the sort of behaviour a child picks up if they may believe they should vanish. That maybe they are a burden? That maybe they are too much effort to be worth taking care of? Just some hypotheticals.
Consider what they might think. Then. If they are not well-behaved and happy and agreeable. If they admit they are afraid. And suddenly, they are alone. No comfort or approval for children who are inconvenient to you, is there?
