[Someone texts him and Sans sees the name attached. He sighs because oh boy, here's Chara again, probably ready to tell him a lot of things he already knows. Amazing they even want to talk to him after he let both kids down so thoroughly in Quor'toth. He almost wants to just ignore it, but...]

[A few minutes to calm down, but calming down is hard, they can't stop thinking about Frisk. They backed off like this because they were terrified their influence almost meant they lost Frisk, but now they're going to lose Frisk anyway. Everyone's going to lose Frisk.]

[He actually gets to his feet while he waits for an answer. It doesn't come, and it doesn't come, and Sans actually starts to pace, which is difficult in his room, since there isn't much of a visible floor. He fidgets with his phone. Checks the network. Glances out the window at Snowdin--not Snowdin, just snow, just regular snow, still just Wonderland.]

[He thought he'd gotten through to them. They had that--that whole conversation, months ago. He thought he'd made it clear that there's no such thing as a perfect Erase, and he'd thought they'd understood, and he'd thought--thought they'd actually listen to him for once. Just on one thing. Wishful thinking.]

[It doesn't even matter what made them change their mind, what drove them to this again. It doesn't matter, because what matters in these situations are the facts--where is Frisk now, what are they doing, can they be stopped, is there still time? He's about to text Frisk himself when Chara answers.]

I told them I wasn't going to reply to them and they started messaging about how if I really didn't want anything to do with them they'd fix the problem. I did this

[It's stupid how hard they have to wrestle to make sure they don't cry. They had a whole month to toughen up. They can't break down. This wall can't ever crumble. Why is he saying it isn't their fault? He's the guy who judges. They were the one so caught up in hurting themself that they hurt other people, right? It's their fault for not forgiving. It's their fault for not doing what Frisk told the to do. Their fault for insisting on staying away, insisting that Frisk be held accountable for what they agreed to instead of giving them a pass.

[There's no note. There's no indication of who it's from. If all goes well, he won't ever know who gave it to him. It took them a long time to make, long hours and days of knitting when they couldn't sleep or didn't want to sleep, but there was nothing else for them - nothing else they could do.

It's a scarf, carefully crafted from red cloth. He'll recognize it at once. It's the spitting image of the one Papyrus usually wears. They'd done their best to recreate it, down to the last stitch.

[...There's already a present outside his door. Chara had sort of... they'd equal parts hoped and dreaded that they might be able to linger around here long enough to see Frisk dropping something off.

Maybe they spent too long on whether they should even be giving something or not. He definitely wouldn't be putting in the effort to get them something. He probably wouldn't have the energy to, even if he wanted to. Not after the way things have gone lately. Not when everyone's exhausted and rattled over whether any of this is real or not and they still haven't been able to find Frisk.

Naughty children don't deserve Gyftmas presents, anyway.

In the end, it's - ha ha, it's just too... too hard. They don't even wrap it. They just... dump a cat toy for 4 outside his door. It's a little bundle of feathers on a string, tied to the end of a plastic wand. They slapped one of those cheap sticky bows onto the stick and called it good enough. Didn't sign it. No "to" or "from." The less effort, the less it looks like anyone cares.]

[Outside of Sans's room, wrapped in a big red bow, is an odd grabber thing. Whenever the skeleton returns to his room he'll find it leaning against the door. Attached to this strange device is a glamour shot of Mettaton's face and a note on the back that reads thus:
